$5.00 Dinners for 4!
Erin Chase was on The Rachel Ray Show this week. She was talking about how she feeds her family of 4 dinners for less than $5.00! And the food is varied, healthy and good tasting. Check out her site at 5dollardinners.com. One of her great ideas was if you see a coupopn in the sunday paper that you use all the time, go out and buy a paper for each member of the family. That way you can buy an item for each member of the family. Check this out. She really has been thinking on this!

Today is Yom HaShoah, also known as Holocaust Remembrance Day- a day set aside to remember the approximately 6 million Jews who dird in the Holocaust. In Isreal this day is typically observed by air-raid sirens sounding at 10 am for 2 minutes, during which time the entire country stops (including cars) and stands at attention to pay tribute to the dead. Flags are flown at half-mast and places of entertainment are closed. It is always celebrated on the 27th day of Nisan, the first month of the year in the Jewish calendar. So that means it may be celebrated on a different day according to our calendar, but it will not vary much.

I made strawberry lemonade from fruit in my yard this Sunday. YUM! I want to tell you the magic secret to making great lemonade. I take 4 lemons and quarter them and throw them into the blender skin and all. Put water to cover lemons and about a cup of sugar. Blend this all well. Then get a strainer and pour this mixture thru strainer into pitcher. Discard pulp. Then add enough water and sugar to taste. Using the peels gives you a little zip in the lemonade and it is really great. But it does not keep well as the oil from the peel keeps getting stronger. But it is pure heaven fresh made!

31 Cent scoop night at Baskin Robbins!

Poway officials are planning to declare a Stage 2 water emergency next month and mandatory water usage reduction by 13%. At the March 17 water workshop the council agreed to implement a 4 tiered pricing system. The more you use the higher the cost for the water.They are also looking at putting apts. and condos and industrial customers on a similar program.We are presently at 2.61 per 746 gallons of water. This will go up to 3.40 July 1, and to 3.80 in Jaunary of 2010. Seriously? Seriously.
So here are a few more ways to cut water usage. Time to buy a bucket for the shower to catch all the water used in waiting for the shower to warm up so you can jump in! And don't pour the water you use to boil pasta, boil eggs or steam veggies down the drain either. Have a pitcher to pour it into. When it is cool use it to water your plants. And don't shave in the shower. This wastes a lot of water. Shave at the sink, or turn the shower off while you shave and just use the shower to rinse off. And outside? Cut your lawn at 2 to 2 1/2 inches. Longer grass helps to reduce evaporation. Also leave the grass clippins on the lawn as it cools the ground abd holds in moisture.
