Ever heard of the color code of bread tags? In most , but not all places, bread is delivered 5 days a week. So there are 5 different colors of twist tags to tell you when the bread was baked.
Monday blue
Tuesday green
Thursday Red
Friday white
Saturday yellow.
The colors are alphabetical in case you can't remember.
Also if there is a date stamped on the plastic tag, that is it date to be taken off the shelf, not it baked date. Just a thought to help you choose the fresher bread on the shelf!
But what to do with the day old and older bread in your home? Don't throw it away! Save it in the freezer for stuffing chicken or turkey. Put it in your blender and grind it up for bread crumbs. Or cut it up for your own croutons, brush with a little olive oil and your fave spice and viola! Croutons! Bread pudding and french toast are also good ways to use old bread. Just google day old bread recipes and see what you get!
I have shopped at day old bread stores off and on all my married life. I have never gotten moldy bread or bad tasting bread. And the snacks are a great price for school lunches. Often they have cereal, bread sticks, etc. But because of the fungus that can grow invisibly in panckake mix and Bisquik, I would not buy that at the day old store. I have the recipe to make that in large batches for yourself! Let me know if you want that recipe.

Anyone like french crepes? There is a new restaurant in La Jolla. It's called Bibby's Crepe Cafe'. It has a wide list of sweet and savory crepes. There is the Strawberry Special, with Nutella, strawberries, and vanilla custard for example. There are 15 sweet and 16 savory crepes. They cost form $7 to $10. I got this out of the San Diego Union tribune and they didn't include the phone number or address! And it's not in my yellow pages. Another thing to google....
In my last post I was wondering about a biodegradable disposable diaper. There is one of a sort. It's called a hybrid diaper. It usually consists of a cotton pant and a disposeable diaper refill that can be flushed or used as wet compost! So I guess now we have to google organic disposable diapers...
my daughter told me a cool thing. If you buy your diapers from www.diapers.com you get free shipping with your first order. but the cool thing is they also sell replacement valves for sippy cups. She saw replacement valves on Amazon.com but the shipping was $7.00. So she went to diaper.com and ordered them with her diapers and didn't have to pay shipping so they were really cheap! But she also told me if a shipment of diapers come to the house for me anytime soon they are really for her.
