Water Wise Plants

With the water rate increase we are all looking at for this summer I thought it might be good to look at some beautiful plants that don't need a lot of water. First of all a water wise planting IS NOT GRASS. So if you have a area large enough to play touch football on, like I do, you should think about doing something else with that piece of land. Plant a tree, build a patio, plant a vegetable garden, and a least get a return for your money, or plant water wise plants there intead of grass. Here are a few suggestions from the Union Tribune:
A. Long blooming perrenials
1.Rosita hummingbird mint
2. compact pineleaf penstemon
3.English lavendar "Sharon Roberts
4. Evening Primrose"Shimmer"
5. Blue Spires Rissian Sage
6. Salvia Ultra violet
7. Giant flowered purple sage
8. "OOLALa" bougainvillea
9. Rockrose "Bennett White"
10.Lantana"Teenie Greenie"

Don't be afraid to go to Walter ANderson or some other nice nursery and ask to see these flowers and plants. Ask what kind of soil is best for them and light requirements. That's what all those people are there for! All you have to say you are looking for ideas, but you are not ready to buy. When you are you don't have to go back there, or you might if they are the only place you can find the chosen plants! They may have some great suggestions for you too.
